Forth week of collaboration.

The forth week was more challenging than the previous weeks as we were now working with interior design and architectural students. This week I was working in interior. I thought this would be really challenging as I have never studied in the area before. During our first meeting we were introduced into groups and had a quick briefing into interior design. We were then each give. Two words in our groups and that what we had to base our project on. As a group we were given the words beautiful vs grotesque. We started by looking at the definition of both of these words.

The definition of Grotesque means Comically or repulsively ugly or distorted and the definition of Beautiful means Pleasing the senses or mind aesthetically.

we started finding images on grotesque. During this we came up with the idea of creating a small closed space. Filled with images that were grotesque. We started to realise that grotesque was a lot easier than beautiful as there is a lot of opinions on what is beautiful. We started to to create the box from cardboard and paint it black. After creating Pinterest boards on grotesque we decided to go with the idea of having crappy doll images, as dolls are meant symbolise beauty.

We rounded it down to four images that we thought would be great for our box. Two of our group members stayed to print of these four images and me and Chloe (other group member) went to find a doll big enough to fit in the box. After searching everywhere we realised that many places did not do the style of doll we needed. We ended up finding a little doll in Tescos which fitted in the box.

We took it back to the uni. Using a scalpel to scratch into the dolls face as well as black acrylic paint and fake blood, we also removed the head from the dolls body. Then hanging the head and images on wool. We then put everything together.

We came up with the idea of creating a board that represented beauty. We decided on using the golden ration and filling that space with images that represented beauty. We nominated Chloe and Dilan to create these boards as me and Ada finished the box.

They both created really beautiful boards but we decided as a group to use Chloe’s. I also created our ideas board for grotesque using adobe sketch. As a last minute decision we decided on adding hair to our grotesque box. We had previously discussed this idea but could not find any hair that we could use but Ada managed to come across a fake black beard that we cut up and used. I think this really made the box stand out and a lot more grotesque.

Overall I really enjoy the week and like working with my group, I felt as if we all contributed and worked really hard on creating our project. Our final outcomes were a success and were a lot better than I could imagine. I found it challenging at first to adapt to this project as it was something new but when I got into it I really enjoyed myself. I thought our pieces really represented our words really well and our point is very clear. Overall I am really happy with our final outcome.

Third week of collaboration

Over the Christmas break I was voted illustrator. This meant I had to create our final line up of 6 designs. I was overall relieved to have this role as I find illustrating enjoyable. I planned to break down the work over Christmas so it wasn’t full on and I had time to spend Christmas with family. During the first half of the Christmas break I drew up 3/6 designs but had a few complications as my iPad smashed so I lost everything so my plan to break down the work to make things easier went straight down the drain. I was able to sort out the whole iPad situation but wasn’t able to recover my work so a few days before we had to send our work to Keira who was putting the presentation together I had to sketch up all 6 designs. I was able to succeed this which I was proud of and I was really please with the final outcome. I did make a few adjustment to the girls designs making sure it was okay with them first. I did find it a little difficult with working from some of the girls designs as the work as clear as others but I managed to work my way around it coming up with the final coming collection.

I was really pleased with the outcome and so was the rest of the girls. I thought we had a very vibrant, unique line up that really pulls together as a collection.

Our overall presentation went really well, again the same 5/6 of us actually contributed work. I found this really unfair as we worked really well over Christmas bar one person. We were told during our sessions that we should be honest and name people who don’t contribute work. I have been pretty patient during our sessions and meetings but jemima did not contribute any work. I felt like this was her last chance to actually step up and do something but she did not. As a group we all felt as if we carried Jemima all throughout this project and this was really unfair the only work she did was a jacket design for the final line up which is nothing compared to how hard we have worked. I have no personal problems with her other than the fact she didn’t work through out the project and this was really unfair and I feel as if she shouldn’t be credited for our work. The one thing that did annoy me was that she didn’t produce any work yet we had to find something for her to talk about during the presentation as we wanted our whole group to take part. We let her talk about our print boards we even wrote notes for her so she knew what to say. She did speak very well and explained our boards great but when she started her words were “WE went around places taking photos and editing them” I just feel as if she took credit for something she did not do. If we were to collaborate again I would have to say no to working with Jemima nothing personal just that we don’t have the same work ethic.

Overall I feel as if I could’ve done better during presenting our work. I feel as if I stuttered and completely froze. I had everything planned out but lost it the minute I stood up. Luckily I think I got my point across and described my boards briefly although I did stutter and got really nervous. I was quite disappointed in myself but I can only use this experience to work on my confidence in presenting in front of a large group of people.

Second week of collaboration.

During the meeting we held as a group we came up with the idea of creating our own graffiti to add to our work. We all came up with idea of going around different locations such as Newport, Cardiff and Bristol to take photos. We all discussed this as a full group and made sure that everyone was clear on the idea.

Later that day after getting home from uni I went around Newport taking photos with one other member from my group. I took a variety of photos before editing and merging them together I create four patterns.

I then decided to add an iridescent pattern over the top of the graffiti so it would link directly to our brief.

These were my print ideas for our second presentation. For the presentation 5/6 of us actually submitted prints and actually put effort into taking and editing pictures. As for the other team member who put zero effort in and to top it off during the presentation this particular person cried and made a fuss, making out that we did not make it clear on what was asked. Even though we made sure it was as clear as day, even offering to team up to take the photos so everyone contributed but she told us that she had other things to do but will definitely get the work done which didn’t appear to be true. I found that this was really unfair as we all contributed but one and its wrong for her to be credited for our work. But overall the presentation so far was well planned out and I felt as if our boards were really well thought out as we received some fairly good feedback.

First week of collaboration.

During the first week we come together as a group to assign job tasks for each member I was given the task to find out about upcoming trends. After hours of digging around the internet, I found that the upcoming trends for s/s2018 is plastics, oversized, a lot of short shorts, and light colours which was great for us as our light theme was iridescent. Also as a group we found that supreme was a more of a street styled brand than sportswear. So as a group we decided to combine graffiti into our work. After having this discussion and doing my research I put together my trends board ready for our first Presentation.

Also during the first week we had to come up with three designs. During this I had some issues accessing my adobe sketch, so I done a rough sketch up my ideas just to add them to the presentation. We all decided that we would create three designs each so we could choose one design each for the final line up. We decided to keep with the street style and oversized. Also displaying our designs on a male model as we had decided on Anwar Hadid to be our costumer profile.

During preparation for our first presentation we came to realise 3/6 of us had the full 3 designs and the others did not. Other than that We received fairly good feedback for our first presentation. We then discussed more roles ready for over Christmas I was voted illustrator. We had also all decided on coming in on a Thursday to hold a group meeting to prepare for the next presentation.

Light (intro)

After finishing the recent project we were given the task to create a light board ready for the next session. I created this board using images from Pinterest. This board is my inspiration on light. I decided to look into natural light and man made. I looked at iridescent lights and how light reflected on water. I also looked into city lights and long exposure.

We were in groups of 6. I was happy with my group as I thought we were all hard workers. Each of us presented our boards to each other and we were all please with everyone input. We decided to go with the idea of iridescent light. This was our favourite idea out of all of them.

Between the groups each of us were given a sports brand. We were to create a capsule collection for this sports brand inspired by light. Our group was given the brand supreme which I was over all please with as I was familiar with the brand.
